In the new Tas-ka collection you will find fabrics, fashion- and living accessories and children products. All the designs are made with their own fabrics. Tas-ka only uses natural materials such as leather, cotton, wool felt and paper. All the products are made in Hollland. One product that really stood out was this great wooden trike. It's built when you order and you can choose from one of their fabrics for the seat. (via storkbitesman)
Bosch & Fjord create art projects in dialogue with companies, public institutions and others, where art gets a distinct function. Take for instance the "IT´S NOT MY FAULT" – CHILD FRIENDLY VISITING FACILITIES. Bosch & Fjord has, together with personal and inmates at Vridløselille State Penitentiary, created child friendly visiting facilities for children with a parent inside prison. Take a look: (photos by Laura Stamer)
They call it the Peanut Chair but it looks extremely similar to Fritz Hansen's Series 7 child's chair. With a rounded back, an almost $480 price difference and 7 colors to choose from ...... it seems this knock-off might not be so bad. But I still prefer the original.
It's also safe, pliable and stylish. That's the drive behind Silikids glass baby bottles called Siliskin.
When asked to help create space, the last thing I think about is IKEA. Don't get me wrong , there a little nice bits here and there that don't "look" IKEA. It's affordable and they just opened one right down the street from me. Everywhere I go, I am always on the hunt for something I need for a client. I will randomly walk into hardware stores looking for that special hook, walk into a restaurant and look at how things are made or a into store for inspiration. So in my long stroll through IKEA, I stumbled upon this cat/dog bed. A bell went off. A client of mine has been wanting a lounger for her 4 year old. It was too pricey to custom make one and all the other lounge chairs for kids were just not her style. Here was my solution. (the 4 year olds favorite color is blue and my client LOVES anything Damask!)
What a fun and creative Bulb Lantern from Kyouei.
I really like the simple and clean design of this Gochi Bowling set for kids.
Ahhhhh, summer in the park is now and what better way to spend a lazy afternoon than with flying a vintage Herman Miller Kite like this?
schubLaden – in german meaning ´drawers´ – is a unique shop in Berlin. It is devoted to the reuse of old one-off original drawers.
We design unique furniture for anywhere that the right piece of furniture is needed and can bring order to one´s beloved mess – each a unique piece with it‘s own story, signed and numbered.. I think these would make great bookshelves with hidden treasures in all the drawers for your mini to fill and remove. Or perhaps create a rolling canvas on the wall above and use the base to store paint brushes.
POPUPSHOP is the brainchild of Luca, Marie-Louise and Sigrid. A new modern clothing company with a focus on sustainability.
These stuffed toys from Bholu are hand made with wool felt & hand embroidery, stuffed with microfibre wadding and have a very nice design. The children's line, Balahs, is special becuase all the designs come from children's drawings who come from underprivileged slum communities. Bholu takes workshops in the communities to give these kids a chance to be kids.
I think these little retro lunch boxes and thermos sets are really cute.
So a client had a problem with a open staircase...in a townhouse with an 8 year old boy, 6 year old girl and a year and half year old. She wanted to make this flow as child-safe as possible. She wanted to know how to stop an 8 year old from sliding down the bannister and how to stop a year and half year old from falling straight down onto a marble floor, should he ever fall over the bannister. My solution? Well, to build a custom piece to suit the space. After much thought, myself and master woodsman Samuel Murray came up with this idea to create furniture piece that would take up the entire space without causing too much visual noise. With a nod to the classic bent curves of the interior of an original Airstream meets an old rail car... this is what we came up with (a before and after):
Professor Mogens Koch, Architect, (who kinda looks like an older Tommy Lee Jones) made this very sweet Grandchild chair in beech and natural canvas. If my math is right, you can own this little beauty for a mere $725 USD!! really??? Does anyone know when this chair was made?
Are you looking for a simple, fun and safe lighting solution for your kid's room? Might I suggest the Bulbcap. The Bulbcap is a lampshade, slightly more than a lightbulb. The caps are directly pulled over the lightbulbs of up to 40 watts.
Perhaps some of you know of the Phantom Tollbooth. It was a classic book written by Norton Juster and illustrated by Jules Feiffer in 1961.

In 1969, animation director Chuck Jones adapted The Phantom Tollbooth into a full-length feature animated film. So take a 10 minute break from whatever you are doing and take a ride.
Die Baupiloten is a programme run by Susanne Hofmann to give architectural students of the Technical University of Berlin practical experience of building. Its first job has been the rehabilitation of the Erika Mann Elementary School in Wedding, Germany, one of the poorest parts of the city and afflicted by over 50 per cent unemployment. The old building is a typical product of the Bismarckian welfare state, solid but most unwelcoming. The students decided to transform it into a fairy tale. The “Baupiloten” together with the pupils developed created the imaginary landscape of the Silver Dragon to serve as the basis of an expressive and playful architecture: the further you get into the school building, the stronger you feel the spirit of the Silver Dragon - a spirit which alters, resonates, glows and shimmers. A sensuous architecture, socially engaged and experimental.
Out of the three amazing floors, my favorite is the second floor. The dragon prepares for flight on the second floor, where bathed in pink light, elements reminiscent of wings fold down from the walls to provide small study areas.
Here is their inspiration picture:
Here is the outcome. Bravo.
Posts have been slow lately. I guess with the baby boom .... everybody suddenly wants to focus on the Minor Details. Never fear..... I'll be back shortly. In the mean time...go and play with this website that makes your pictures look really old. (yes, that's me .... via the apartment)
I'm not saying that little kids should have slingshots. I'm not saying that adults should have slingshots. But on the half change that I should ever see this Ringshot from Shira Nahon in a store...i will buy it. I would then run outside immediately and flick something somewhere with utter precision. (and a HUGE smile on my face)
The fine ladies at Small Magazine have come out with the summer 08 issue (#6). Go on and give it a read.
Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. In May 2008, more than a century after it was begun, the tunnel has finally been completed. An extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope has been installed at both ends which miraculously allows people to see right through the Earth from London to New York and vice versa. Ok, so that's not actually the truth. But the story sounds pretty amazing. Paul St George has brought two cities together...in real time...24-7 via his Telectroscope. So, take the kids and head down to the Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn before its exit June 15th.
I really like this Batua Rocking Chair from Usona Home
We travel a ton so when we go to the airport, we have our trusty little bag of tricks. But really, all my daughter wants to do is watch movies on my iPhone. As you know, only Apple earbuds can fit unless you have an extender. So she is sitting there with both hands at her ears and gets frustrated having to do so. So when I saw these dope headphones that come with an iPhone plug..... I said yes please.
Leave it it Marie of Little Fashion Gallery to bring back rattan. I think this might be the first time that rattan has "made me look". La Maison De Lena made this line in traditional rattan and in resin; it could be described as ‘clever’ furniture, allowing children maybe to hide, or just to sit and chat. The furniture is comfortable and aesthetic, combining traditional charm with a unique contemporary design.
Fishbol, a design atelier based in Canada , made this interesting chair called "Book Seat". It's made of bent plywood and I think this could make for a very cozy reading chair for junior. (via designboom)
Being a big fan of Joel Escalona, I'm intrigued by his Looksie Grass. This was an Art Project collaboration project with Artist and Illustrator Stephen Crowhurst resulting in a playground carpet for kids.
