viva la 2008

What a wonderful year it's been....and I am so thankful for all my readers. Without you this little blog would be pointless. It started with the simple idea of creating my own little visual reference library.  Made up of thousands upon thousands of my forgotten bookmarks. At the close of the year, it's turned into something far greater than I could have ever hoped. So thanks again for stopping by and please, make yourself at home. 

One last thing, because of you, I was nominated for a Homie : Best Kid's Design Blog of 2008 over at Ohdeedoh. Go over and cast your vote. wrapping up

My posting has been a bit nil since last week. I've been wrapping up a project that has taken a wonderful amount of time in order to complete by the holidays. I thought I would give you a little taste of the project. The direction for the playroom was Princess and the Pea meets Enchanted Forest. The room is 75% complete and I could not be happier....and so is a little 3 1/2 year old!!! 

I'm off now to do a bit more wrapping....of presents. Merry Merry everyone!

2,600 sheets of fun

Meet Paperstorm  ... a place to for kids to create. A total of 2.600 single sheets, each 50 x 100 cm build a table with 40 cm height, which stands on a flat stainless steel base. Stay-down rolls let the table stay movable. This is especially important for the positioning in the children’s room. The selected paper from IGEPA is produced out of Eucalyptus trees, which are planted as renewable raw materials on special ecologically certified plantations.

Made in Germany, the birchwood comes from Europe and the fabric from Austrian company Steiner The materials are 100 % recycable. The surfaces can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, a damp cloth or a soft brush and – unlike many other textiles – retain their original character for a long time. The rocking horse is foldable, therefore very easy to fold and put away.

Designer Karsten Willmann just won the Best of the Best 08 Red Dot Award for Sklyino...in hopes to make air travel with infants safer and calmer.

 

The idea for Skylino is based on modern flight seats with three-point belts, which offers the opportunity secure the child in front of its parent. Physical contact between parent and child has many advantages: the child is calmed by the contact with his/her parent, and other airline passengers will be disturbed less. If there is an emergency, the parent is able to leave the aircraft as quickly as the other passengers.

I think that designer Duck Young Kong is on to something with his Lunar Baby Thermometer :

The idea is based on a common and natural behavior of putting your hand on the forehead to measure internal heat of their body. Checking the temperature by scanning the forehead with this device is easier and faster, since it eliminates the need to insert an external tool while holding them in a still position. The intuitive shape of the device allows the user to easily understand how to hold and use the device. The organic and ergonomic shape provides a secure grasp in the users hand.  The most important part: After simply placing the device on the forehead, a beeping sound followed by a flashing LED alerts the user when it is done. In addition, the user can clearly see the temperature on the LCD screen, while holding the device to their baby [or sick little kid].
