had i known.....

that getting pen/paint/crayon marks on your clothing was going to be "in", i would have never thrown away that Stella McCartney dress that my daughter thought was a perfect canvas for her markers. (i guess i can't blame her). Introducing Renewable Clothing by Fernando Brizio. By placing colored felt-tip pens in the pockets of the dress its appearance changes over time. Within an hour - to one and a half hours the colored ink bleeds into the fabric and creates a one-off design for each occasion. the owner can then clean the dress and color it in a different way for each time they wear it.

shoes for tomorrow

Last night, I was asked to participate in a brainstorm/salon to think of creative ways for a shoe company to enter the kids shoe market and increase awareness for the brand. Before I go any further, I am posting about them on my own accord. I believe and support their cause. I am posting to create awareness and introduce you to a brand that is doing something good for others. TOMS Shoes business plan is simple - for every shoe you purchase, they send a pair of shoes to a child in need. Since 2006, they have given 10,000 pairs to children in Argentina and 50,000 pairs in South Africa. This year alone, they plan on giving 200,000 pairs of shoes to children in need around the world. Here is a clip of an acutal shoe drop in Argentina back in 2006.

I was introduced to the Tiny TOMS line last night. I love the designs just as much as I love the cause.

Get involved!

a soho stroll

Yesterday I took a stroll thru Soho and stopped into the MOMA store on Spring and Crosby and spotted these paintable rain boots for kids. I then walked down Broadway to Pearl River where I found this knock-off of Alvar Aalto's Stool 60 for 10 bucks! I love New York days like this.

an angel among us

These paper wings by KA-I KA-O stick to a child's shirt by a system of intergrated pins or can be fixed to the wall. So with some adult supervision, your mini can be an angel...even when they are not.

a lil apron never hurt anybody

I certanly don't want to promote the idea that the kitchen is where a girl belongs but c'mon, this lil apron is really freakin cute. However, to balance out the notion of not just ladies in the kitchen, here's an apron for your lil man as well.

felt, foam, and squares ... oh my

oLoOP is a Slovenija Design house that consists of three designers : Tjaša Bavcon, Katja Burger, and Jasmina Ferček. Just recently, they took home the Red Dot Award : Design Concept : Best of the Best : Education 2007. The design , Squareplay, is a playground for parents and children made of mounted industrial felt, foam, and PES. (I have no idea what PES is but I'm sure it's child friendly).

"Concept: shape of the Squareplay is simple, abstract, open and free of any association. It gives all freedom to child's fantasy to expand. It can become a changeable hiding place or driving surface for toy-cars. It can be used inside or outside. It can be used by one person or many. It can be part of kindergarden or playground equipment." Here is a list of the other Red Dot Education winners. oLoOP also designed these pretty fun and cool Flying Slippers!

pure as snow

Adrienne Catrina children's line Neige is simply wonderful. "The French word for “snow”, neige was chosen to designate the collection for its connotations of purity, innocence and sophisticated playfulness." With only a one fall and one spring line under their belt, I am looking forward to seeing what's next from this California based design house!

cliffsnotes cloth

Mes vetements educatifs is a french educational clothing line that helps kids learn left from right, time tables, and the inner workings of the body. So teach your children to study less and play more as this line starts at sizes geared for 6 years through 11. I don't know, these are just a bit much for my parenting taste. (although if I was 11 and had a science final coming up, I would have totally had something like this up my sleeve).

to russia with love

I'm sure these boots would keep the little mini warm over hear in Brooklyn.... if it actually felt like winter. VALENKIDS is a felt boot that is made in the last operating Valenki (made by felting) factory in northern Russia. They are so minimal and simple in design but so heavy and sturdy in practicality.
