I've been collecting vintage children's furniture for a while now. With a creative background in the film, television and print industry, I understand the need to find that special prop that will "make" the shoot. So, in addition to all our other services, we are now renting out our children's prop collection to stylist and photographers in the New York area. And yes, the collection will continue to grow!
I LOVE searching through Etsy...so when they asked me to be a Featured Buyer and take part in the Handmade Kids series, I was honored. I gave some of my picks for the family friendly home. If you have never tried an Etsy stroll, I highly recommend it! Check out my piece here. Also, be sure to check the new Handmade Kids features regularly!
WINTHER have specialized in manufacturing quality trikes and cycles for children that help develop and stimulate their physical and motor skills. Here are just a few of my favorites. Head on over to Conran's sale section to scoop a few up. (Thanks for the sale tip Natasha!)
IKEA has come out with a new "highchair" called GASELL. I would refer to this as a booster chair more than a highchair as this is clearly not for babies. Regardless, for $34 bucks it's not bad.
The colorful and "double faced" Oplà chair from NaNa Design can serve as a rocking chair or a still seat. It's refreshing to see a rocker in such bold colors.
Little Odd Forest has a wonderful collection of playful things. I am a huge fan of their huggables as well as the Lovely Day Plate. They both are just the right size for the pint-sized eaters and toy handlers.
The Rolleiflex Mini Digital Camera proudly continues the Rollei Twin Lens Reflex tradition, pushing the famed camera into beautifully tiny territory! It has a big price tag but this would make for a superb first camera for little hands.
I love that my child loves to ride her scooter or bike...I really do. We have great route to school via foot everyday and it's great when she wants to do-it-by-herself! However, what's not fun is the begging and pleading to ride her bike or scooter to only loose complete interest a quarter of the way there. Leaving my husband or myself lugging this thing the rest of the way. This is why I love the concept behind Chang Ting Jen's Backpack Bicycle. Yes, I know this concept is for an adult size bike but I know someone out there can do this for smaller versions!
Back in February of this year, I went to the Kids.Modern show in London. I was happy to run into Bugge, a multi-shaped structure for kids. Back then, there was no web resource for this piece.....until now. (thanks babygadget!)
As we are in prime bike riding season, here are two bike seats for kids that I really like. The OGK child seat, for those who prefer your kid behind you, and the iBert for the front riders.
Just when you thought a kid's world was powered exclusively by batteries. Crazy Forts uses geometrically precise balls and sticks to create a multitude of play fort possibilities that you simply throw a sheet over. If you go to the site, you can download different "blueprints". They are also coming out with interior lights for the forts. (via notcot)
So a client has 8 year old boy twins have an entire floor of a townhouse to themselves. They share a bathroom and a walk-in closet with one bedroom in front and one in the back. The problem? Well, they are eight and they have a lot of energy....and a new little sister. So my client wanted to figure out a way to keep them occupied....especially when it will be too cold to play outside. To that I say.......... a PING PONG TABLE DOOR !
MIMUMA means "Mini Music Machines." This group of protoype instruments, by PKNTS and Florian Schwab, is geared towards children and making music. With a wireless connection that permits file swaps, kids can create a mini recording studio anywhere. I am looking forward to production.
In the new Tas-ka collection you will find fabrics, fashion- and living accessories and children products. All the designs are made with their own fabrics. Tas-ka only uses natural materials such as leather, cotton, wool felt and paper. All the products are made in Hollland. One product that really stood out was this great wooden trike. It's built when you order and you can choose from one of their fabrics for the seat. (via storkbitesman)
Bosch & Fjord create art projects in dialogue with companies, public institutions and others, where art gets a distinct function. Take for instance the "IT´S NOT MY FAULT" – CHILD FRIENDLY VISITING FACILITIES. Bosch & Fjord has, together with personal and inmates at Vridløselille State Penitentiary, created child friendly visiting facilities for children with a parent inside prison. Take a look: (photos by Laura Stamer)
Are you looking for a simple, fun and safe lighting solution for your kid's room? Might I suggest the Bulbcap. The Bulbcap is a lampshade, slightly more than a lightbulb. The caps are directly pulled over the lightbulbs of up to 40 watts.
I'm not saying that little kids should have slingshots. I'm not saying that adults should have slingshots. But on the half change that I should ever see this Ringshot from Shira Nahon in a store...i will buy it. I would then run outside immediately and flick something somewhere with utter precision. (and a HUGE smile on my face)
We travel a ton so when we go to the airport, we have our trusty little bag of tricks. But really, all my daughter wants to do is watch movies on my iPhone. As you know, only Apple earbuds can fit unless you have an extender. So she is sitting there with both hands at her ears and gets frustrated having to do so. So when I saw these dope headphones that come with an iPhone plug..... I said yes please.
Being a big fan of Joel Escalona, I'm intrigued by his Looksie Grass. This was an Art Project collaboration project with Artist and Illustrator Stephen Crowhurst resulting in a playground carpet for kids.
L’Affiche Moderne is a french fine art print e-shop presenting the works of young photographers, graphic designers and children’s illustrators. The new works by FlipFlopDesign are rather nice and send a positive and subtle message about taking care of our environment. The site is really great if your looking for wonderful art for a kids space. Like the last image below by Nicolas Gouny.
Last night, I was asked to participate in a brainstorm/salon to think of creative ways for a shoe company to enter the kids shoe market and increase awareness for the brand. Before I go any further, I am posting about them on my own accord. I believe and support their cause. I am posting to create awareness and introduce you to a brand that is doing something good for others. TOMS Shoes business plan is simple - for every shoe you purchase, they send a pair of shoes to a child in need. Since 2006, they have given 10,000 pairs to children in Argentina and 50,000 pairs in South Africa. This year alone, they plan on giving 200,000 pairs of shoes to children in need around the world. Here is a clip of an acutal shoe drop in Argentina back in 2006.
I was introduced to the Tiny TOMS line last night. I love the designs just as much as I love the cause.
White Rabbit England is the brain child of sisters Charlotte and Victoria who set out to recreate the magical lamps they loved as children. I'd say they are spot on. How sweet are these nightlights? I love the mushroom top fairytale approach and as well as the contemporary stripes.
LTD Studio has come out with a sweet coat rack / height chart called the rack AUGU. It can also measure inches and feet, is made of plywood and additional colors are available upon request. Spotted at ICFF
Stephen Procter's highly anticipated highchair (DINA) and cot (ALMA) will be available in Aug 2008 from Bloom Baby. I was lucky enough to get a prototype tour of the entire line at ABC last year from Stephen and was even happier to see how far they had come along with the design at ICFF this year. I cant wait! (it even comes in rouge, black or white!)
Quax is a Belgium based maker of children's goods. Ranging from playpens to beds to bath and changing stations to textiles to a stroller. I like the color tones and clean lines of their offerings.
