This film was done by John Klassen and Dan Rodrigues in their third year at Sheridan College's Classical Animation Program. Everything is hand drawn and animated. They coloured the animation digitally, and the backgrounds are a mix of traditional and digital. The jazz music near the middle is from Louis Armstrong's "Jeepers Creepers".
Perhaps some of you know of the Phantom Tollbooth. It was a classic book written by Norton Juster and illustrated by Jules Feiffer in 1961.
In 1969, animation director Chuck Jones adapted The Phantom Tollbooth into a full-length feature animated film. So take a 10 minute break from whatever you are doing and take a ride.

While in Los Angeles this weekend, we checked out the Murakami show at the MOCA. It was a perfect rainy afternoon and my daughter really had a blast. Full of visual stimulation and playful banter, this show is not to be missed if you are in the area. There are just a handful of questionable art for the youngsters but nothing serious enough to make you stay home. We did have a funny moment though. You know the movie Christmas Story where the dad gets the leg lamp and the little boy tries to feel it up? Well, my daughter saw this figure below and walked right up to it and tried to feel up this ladies leg in amazement. I don't know which gave me more of a chuckle, her face when she was thinking she was getting away with touching art or the security guards face when he came running over to her. (Mind you, I did not encourage her to touch your art Mr. Murakami.... we were across the room)
DRV-IN is the coolest thing I've seen in a long while. It's things like this that make me fall in love with living in the city. The guys at Grand Opening have a tiny store front in the Lower East Side off Norfolk Street that they rotate into a magical place. With DRV-IN, they have actually parked a 1965 Ford Falcon inside and created an actual drive-in movie space...with stars, a tree, and all you can eat popcorn. I stopped in the other night to ask more as I had passed an hour or so earlier and saw the cutest couple enjoying a movie. So here is the deal, you can make a picnic, order in food, byob and have up to six people in the car.
So wether you are looking for a date night out or a weekend matinee for the kids, it's a fantastic idea that will only be around for a few more months. I'm excited to see what the next installation will be! T, last year we saw a screening of Over the Edge on the big screen, I think the next should be Kentucky Fried Movie if we are childless or E.T. if we're not.
One of my daughter's favorite books is Where the Wild Things Are. As many of you know, they are making it into a film. I have full confidence with Spike behind the wheel! I think the next adaptation of a children's book should be Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs!
Le ballon rouge (The red ballon) came out in 1956 and, although only 34 minutes long, won the oscar for best original screenplay. it is a timeless classic. the balloon has a mind and will of its own, much like my daughter....perhaps thats why she likes it so much. the pic on the end is a nod to the classic done by banksy.
